Tribal elder, historian and former Chinook Nation Councilwoman, Marcheta VanPatten, reviews family documents while teaching about her family’s baskets and genealogy in 2007. Marcheta served the Nation as the Enrollment Committee Chair for many years. She is a descendant of the Lower Chinook Treaty signer Ahmoosamose.
Pictured below: Basket, afine example of Lower Chinook basketry made by the granddaughter of Ahmoosamose Kate Walkowsky. Doll, a wrap-twined teething doll also made by Kate Walkowsky. This family treasure was made by Kate for her daughter, Marcheta’s mother. Note the well-used left foot.
