Learn What Words?

There is much available on Chinook Jargon, and even quite a bit about Chinook Proper.  What will be posted here is not going to be complete.  It will not be lessons.  You will not leave here a speaker of Chinuk WaWa, Chinook Proper, Chinook Jargon, or any other language.

What will be posted here is what The Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon set about to preserve; the trade language used up and down the North American coast.  The name given it, is Chinuk WaWa.

Until such time as the Chinook Indian Nation decides what the official tribal language will be, common words and phrases of the Chinuk WaWa will be posted here.  These are words and phrases you will hear spoken at Chinookan events and gatherings.

The spellings are purely what I feel will be easiest for people to figure out (with audio clips yet to come) how to pronounce them.  What is underlined is where the emphasis lies.  The words/phrases are in the box to the right.  When sound goes up, it will be easier to learn pronunciation.
